The Pioneer Trail at Martinville Oscar Lessard
OSCAR LESSARD
1895-1964
Originally from Disraéli, Oscar Lessard settled in Martinville in the mid-1920s and managed the local sawmill, which had sparked the municipality’s development. He would be its last owner. Very much involved in his community, this Martinville pioneer gradually became a prosperous businessman. He owned many businesses, built bridges, and became a snow removal entrepreneur. Mr. Lessard also left his mark by helping to found the Martinville credit union (Caisse populaire) and then becoming its first president.
