The Pioneer Trail at Saint-Malo Georgianna Lizotte-Ouellet
GEORGIANNA LIZOTTE-OUELLET
1874-1950
Georgianna Lizotte-Ouellet was born on the shore of the Saint Lawrence River, near La Pocatière. Eventually, in 1909, this pioneering woman arrived in Malvina with her husband and eight of their sixteen children. Aware of the difficulties of giving birth in the back country and sensitive to the situation of women who were unable to benefit from the services of a doctor, Georgianna Ouellet worked as a midwife for forty years. We cherish the memory of this devoted and generous woman who, in spite of the many hardships in her life, not only was present for the birth of many children, but also tended to the needs of the sick and dying.
